100 years of Battermann & Tillery

A long-established company with Scottish roots and Bremen foresight

100 Jahre Battermann & Tillery

This year, Battermann & Tillery, headquartered in Bremen and with family roots in Belhelvie, Scotland, celebrates its 100th anniversary. Since 1913, Battermann & Tillery has operated in the tradition of independent surveyors for global insurance markets and the transport industry. The company was originally registered with the Bremen Commercial Register on 08 July 1913 as Battermann & Nülle, which also marked the foundation of a successful company history.

Today, Battermann & Tillery has successfully established itself as an international service provider for cargo damage as well as loss prevention. The company has nearly 100 employees and is continuously growing. With 27 subsidiaries in Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania and Turkey as well as an own worldwide network of surveyors, Battermann & Tillery belongs to the European market leaders of cargo surveyors and average agents. International customers, including renowned cargo and freight liability underwriters, industrial companies, logistics providers, shipping companies and courts, rely on the expertise of the Bremen based company, which has been successfully run by Percy Tillery since the 1970s.

The family run business, in its fourth generation, is now managed by Percy Tillery’s son Patrick. In 2010, Patrick Tillery assumed the position of Managing Director and was appointed to the board of the TMN Survey Group Association in London. It is with pride that the great-grandson looks back on the 100-year company history: “Hanseatic values such as continuity and foresight have always marked the history of our family business, which is established in the long, solid tradition of Bremen cargo surveyors. At the same time, every generation made a significant contribution to the new developments in the now broad field of damage experts and cargo surveyors and thus also contributed to the firm establishment of high standards on an international level”, he commented. “However, this success would not have been possible without our highly dedicated employees. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our employees as well as customers and partners with whom our company has worked closely together with for many years”, added Percy Tillery.

The official anniversary celebration will take place in Bremen on 12 September 2013.
